NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Westchester woman died Monday night after she fell down an open manhole in Midtown.
The deadly fall happened around 11:15 p.m. at 653 Fifth Ave.
Investigators believe the woman had parked her Mercedes-Benz SUV and was exiting the vehicle when she accidentally stepped into the uncovered Con Edison manhole, sources said.
She was found unconscious and unresponsive about 10 feet down, police said. Rescue crews removed her and rushed her to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Her identity has been withheld pending the notification of her family, but officials said she is from Briarcliff Manor.
The chief medical examiner will determine her cause of death.
No arrests have been made, and no criminality is currently suspected, police said, as the investigation continues.
In a statement, a Con Edison spokesperson said, “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a member of the public has died after falling into an open manhole. We are actively investigating how this occurred. Our thoughts are with the individual's family, and safety remains our top priority.”
