NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 79-year-old woman died on a street blocks from her Brooklyn home Thursday evening after she was struck and dragged by two hit-and-run drivers, police said.
NYPD officers responding to a call around 6:30 p.m. found the victim lying on the roadway unconscious at New York Avenue and Herkimer Street in Crown Heights.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS and later identified as Yvonne Sandiford, who lived about five blocks south of the crash scene.
Police said she was crossing New York Avenue in the marked crosswalk when she was hit by the driver of a gray Nissan Rogue who was turning left onto New York Avenue from Herkimer Street.
The Nissan SUV dragged her on New York Avenue, where she was then struck by the driver of a white Toyota Sienna minivan, who was headed north on New York Avenue and turned right onto Fulton Street.
Both drivers fled the scene, leaving her to die on the street, police said.
The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating. No arrests had been reported as of Friday.
