
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An 82-year-old woman was struck and killed by an SUV less than a block from her home in Queens, police said Friday.
The collision happened on Sunday, May 23, at approximately 3:20 p.m. at the intersection of Corporal Kennedy Street and 43 Avenue in the Bayside neighborhood, officials said.
Upon arrival, responding officers observed 82-year-old Lopamudra Desai lying on the roadway with head and body trauma, according to the NYPD.
EMS transported the victim to NYC Health & Hospitals/Queens, where she was pronounced deceased on Tuesday, May 25.
Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that she was struck by a 43-year-old woman driving a 2020 grey Chevrolet Traverse was going south on Corporal Kennedy Street.
The driver was coming to a stop near the intersection of 43 Avenue, when she made a left turn, heading eastbound, onto 43 Avenue, and struck Desai, who was crossing 43 Avenue near the vicinity of the east marked crosswalk, officials said.
The victim fell to the roadway and struck her head on the pavement as a result of the collision, police added.
The vehicle operator remained at the scene.
There were no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
