NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- TSA officials at LaGuardia arrested a Florida woman on Saturday after discovering she had "artfully concealed" a handgun and ammunition in her carry-on items, the agency said Monday.
TSA officers removed the following from the woman's carry-on during routine checkpoint screening:
- a .25 caliber handgun that had been "shoved inside a boot"
- 7 bullets that were hidden inside a package of make-up wipes
- a gun magazine concealed inside a sock
"The weapons and ammunition were caught as the woman, a resident of Hollywood, Fla., entered the security checkpoint," the TSA said in a statement. "The X-ray unit alerted on the items concealed in her carry-on bag. TSA officials notified the Port Authority Police who confiscated the gun, ammunition and gun magazine and arrested the woman on a weapons charge."
The woman, who was not identified, was slapped with a citation by airport police, but she also faces a financial civil penalty up to $15,000.
It was the fifth gun that TSA officers have detected at the airport's checkpoints this year, the TSA said.
