NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 66-year-old woman was assaulted with a golf club in a random attack at a lower Manhattan subway station on Friday evening, and police are searching for the culprit.

The attack happened at about 7:30 p.m. inside the Cortlandt Street subway station in the Financial District.


The woman was at the station when she was approached by the suspect and struck in the head with the golf club, police said.

She sustained a laceration to the left side of her head and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

Officials described the suspect, who fled the scene, as being about 5 foot 6 inches tall and 150 pounds. Police released surveillance footage of the man walking through a subway turnstile as he carried the club.

He was last seen wearing a tan skull cap, gray scarf, tan shirt, tan pants and black shoes.
