NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A subway conductor was hospitalized Friday morning after being struck by an open beer container on a platform in Midtown Friday morning.
An MTA spokesman said at around 7 a.m., a 5-foot-8 woman in her thirties, weighing about 170 pounds was on a Midtown subway platform and threw an open beer container through the window of the conductor's cab.
The 33-year-old conductor was struck "without provocation" while her 6 train stopped at 59th Street station, the agency said.
The suspect fled the scene, officials said.
The train was taken out of service at Grand Central-42nd Street station by MTA dispatchers.
The unidentified transit employee was hospitalized for "evaluation of trauma," the MTA said.
"Senseless attacks on transit workers are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated," MTA rep Michael Cortez said in a statement.
"We will fully cooperate with an NYPD investigation, and urge prosecutors to demand maximum available penalties for perpetrators," Cortez added.
An investigation remains ongoing.
