NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man kicked a woman while hurling anti-Asian remarks in Manhattan on Monday — then brandished a knife to threaten a bystander who tried to intervene, the NYPD said.

The 23-year-old woman was in front of a building on West 26th Street, between 6th and 7th avenues in Chelsea, around 11:55 a.m. on Monday when the man kicked her in the back and the leg while making anti-Asian statements, police said.

When a bystander tried to intervene, the man menaced him with a knife, the NYPD said.

The attack left the woman with leg and back pain, but she refused medical attention at the scene, police said. Her attacker fled east on West 26th Street, the NYPD said.

The NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the assault, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
