NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Police on Wednesday are looking to identify serial thieves on mopeds who robbed two women of their purses hours apart earlier this month in Queens.
The first incident happened at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, when a 50-year-old woman was walking home, authorities said.
According to officials, two suspects approached the woman on a two-wheeled scooter in front of 38-14 30th St. in Astoria then stole her purse from her arm and fled on the scooter in an unknown direction.
The victim sustained cuts to her hand but refused medical attention.
Hours later, at approximately 10:20 p.m., a 38-year-old woman was walking home when two suspects approached her on a two-wheeled scooter in front of 88-10 88th St. in Woodhaven.
The suspects punched the woman in the face and dragged her on the ground before forcibly stealing her purse from her arm, the NYPD said.
The thieves then fled on the two-wheeled scooter southbound on 88th Street.
The victim sustained minor injuries to her face, knee, and elbow but refused medical attention.
