NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a knife-wielding man wanted for following then robbing a woman inside a building in Queens over the weekend, authorities said.
The incident happened at approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, in the vicinity of 43rd Avenue and 51st Street in Sunnyside, the NYPD said.
According to officials, a 28-year old woman was entering her apartment building when an unknown suspect entered the building right behind her.
The suspect displayed a knife and demanded her property.
He then forcibly removed the victim's purse which contained her wallet, cash, and jewelry with an estimated value of $2,000, police said.
The suspect then fled the location on foot in an unknown direction.
The victim was not reported injured during this incident.
An investigation is ongoing.
