NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 32-year-old woman was shot in the ankle during an attempted robbery in Brooklyn early Monday morning, the NYPD said.
The woman was with her boyfriend on Maujer Street, between Lorimer Street and Union Avenue, in Williamsburg around 2:40 a.m. on Monday when two men approached them, displayed a gun and demanded property, police said.
When the woman tried to push them away, a gun went off, hitting her in the ankle, the NYPD said. It wasn't immediately clear whether one of the men fired the gun, or whether it went off accidentally, police said.
The woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, the NYPD said. The suspects fled the scene.
An investigation is ongoing.
