Woman's burnt body found at Highbridge Park in Washington Heights

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — An investigation began Wednesday afternoon after authorities responded to reports of a brush fire in a Washington Heights park and discovered a woman's burnt body, police said.

The body was found at 4:37 p.m. inside Highbridge Park, near Edgecomb Avenue and Jumel Place. Both fire officials and police responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, police said that officers observed a “severely burnt female body.” EMS pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The medical examiner will determine the woman’s cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
