Worker down manhole in East Harlem prompts emergency rescue

The FDNY responded and pulled a worker out of a manhole in East Harlem Wednesday morning.

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Emergency responders rescued a worker who fell down a manhole in East Harlem on Wednesday morning, according to the FDNY.

It happened just after 9 a.m. at the Second Avenue subway construction site near East 108th Street. Fire officials said that the worker was 12 feet down in the manhole.


The worker was removed by firefighters and taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment. Officials said that the worker's condition was not immediately known.

Fire officials warned commuters to be aware of traffic delays, road closures and transit delays due to the response.
