YONKERS, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A former biology teacher at a special needs high school was arrested Wednesday morning for repeatedly raping her 16-year-old student.
Sandy Carazas-Pinez, 34, a former biology teacher at Biondi Special Education Center in Yonkers, allegedly coerced the child into a sexual relationship that lasted from November 2022 to February 2023.
Prosecutors accused the former teacher of repeatedly inducing the child into engaging in sexually explicit conduct over video calls and having sex with him in her car in encounters she called “gifts.”
She also allegedly sent nude images of herself to the teenager over text.
Carazas-Pinez is married and has three children.
“Sandy Carazas-Pinez exploited the trust placed in her as a teacher to sexually abuse a teenage student in her care,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said. “Today’s indictment makes clear that my Office will continue to tirelessly pursue sexual predators of all forms – especially those who are entrusted to care for children – and hold them accountable to the fullest extent under the law.”
Carazas-Pinez faces charges of enticing a minor victim to engage in illegal sexual activity and production of child pornography. She faces a mandatory miniimum sentence of 25 years and a maximum sentence of life in prison if she is convicted.
