NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A Long Island library accidentally gave out a pornographic comic book to families on Free Comic Book Day last weekend.
The comic, “Tales of a Grown-Up Nothing,” was distributed to families in a giveaway bag at Farmingdale Public Library on Saturday, according to WABC.
The cover of the comic, which shows a teen skateboarding down a street, doesn’t give any indication to the mature material inside, including people engaged in sex acts and a man appearing to kill a cop.
An unnamed father alerted the library after his child looked at the comic, according to the report.
The library’s director, Debbie Podolski, told WABC that she’s glad the parent brought the issue to the library’s attention.
“It was a mistake. It slipped through,” Podolski said.
The library has since thrown out the comic and two others it received from Diamond Comic Distributors, the sponsor of Free Comic Book Day.
A spokesperson for Diamond Comic Distributors told WABC that libraries participating in Free Comic Book Day order comics based on age ratings, like “all ages,” “teen” and “mature.”
“Given this mishap by the library, we are reviewing guidelines going forward,” the spokesperson said.
