BALDWIN, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man punched and stabbed his roommate, then bit off a chunk of his ear at their Long Island home before injuring a cop in a scuffle at a hospital, Nassau County Police said Friday.

The chaos began around 6 a.m. Thursday in Baldwin as the roommates argued about something inside their home at Smith Street and Grand Avenue.

During the fight, Marcus O'Brien, 35, allegedly punched his 53-year-old roommate several times before grabbing a large kitchen knife and stabbing him multiple times in the arm and shoulder.

The roommate fought back and was able to get the knife from O'Brien, but O'Brien grabbed him by the neck and choked him, police said.

O'Brien then bit his right ear, tearing off a "large piece" of the ear, according to cops.

The roommate called police, and officers were able to arrest O'Brien without further incident.

The roommate was transported to a hospital in stable condition. Police said he suffered deep stab wounds to his left shoulder and right arm, as well as swelling and bruising to his face, in addition to the damage to his ear.

O'Brien was also taken to the hospital, but during his release he became uncooperative with officers who were escorting him to a police car.

He refused commands and "attempted physical force" on the officers, according to cops, who said one officer suffered injuries in the scuffle that required hospitalization.

O'Brien was ultimately charged with multiple counts of assault in the first, second and third degrees, as well as attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, criminal obstruction of breathing, criminal mischief, harassment, and obstructing government administration.
