NORTH BABYLON, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — An 18-year-old man is facing multiple felonies after allegedly firing a gun and slashing a 17-year-old boy during a dispute inside a North Babylon gym on Tuesday night.
Suffolk County Police said Noah Haynes, of Wyandanch, got into a verbal dispute with the teen inside the LA Fitness on Deer Park Avenue, when staff members asked him to leave the facility at around 7:15 p.m.
The two then allegedly had a physical altercation in the parking lot. Haynes left the premises in a car and the 17-year-old returned to the gym.
Thirty minutes later, cops said Haynes entered the building and confronted the teen in the locker room, allegedly slashing him in the neck with a metal object and pointing a handgun at him.
Authorities said the two then left the locker room and began to fight in the gym area. The teen yelled out to other people that Haynes had a gun.
Three gym members intervened and held Haynes down until police arrived.
Amid the struggle, Haynes allegedly fired one shot. No one was struck, police said.
Several eyewitnesses called 911 at around 7:50 p.m. to report an active shooter.
Haynes was placed under arrest at 7:55 p.m. The teen victim was transported to a local hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.
Haynes has been charged with second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, menacing and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
