Man, 21, facing murder charges in New Jersey shooting death: officials

PATERSON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Police on Monday arrested and charged a 21-year-old man in the shooting death of another man in New Jersey, officials said.

Kamar Isom, 21, is facing a murder charge for the fatal shooting of Raaseon Adams, 45, that occurred on April 25 outside the Adams' Paterson home on Summer Street the day after an argument that escalated and turned physical, according to officials.

Police said Adams was found lying on the sidewalk and had been repeatedly shot in the head and neck.

He was taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center, where he later died, authorities said.

"The subsequent investigation revealed that the day prior to the murder, Isom and the victim engaged in a verbal argument which escalated into a physical altercation," Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a statement.

Isom allegedly approached Adams in front of his home and shot him at close range, Valdes said.

Detectives on Monday found Isom at a home in Elmwood Park where he was taken into custody without incident, the prosecutor said.

Isom was also charged with three second-degree weapons offenses, Valdes said.

Adams, who is deaf and speech-impaired, was pepper-sprayed and arrested in 2018, following a physical altercation with city police officers. Passaic County Prosecutor's Office later declined to prosecute the cops.

Anyone with information about Adams' death is asked to call the prosecutor's office at 1-877-370-PCPO or email tips@passaiccountynj.org, or contact Paterson police detectives at 973-321-1120.
