YONKERS, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A 21-year-old Yonkers man pleaded guilty to stealing over 290 checks out of New Jersey mailboxes and altering them to deposit in his own account, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.
From February to November 2020, Nigel Lynch stole checks from mailboxes in Morris, Essex, Somerset and Passaic counties in New Jersey, changed the recipient information and then deposited them into his own account and the accounts of two conspirators.
The trio collectively withdrew over $550,000 in stolen cash from the accounts.
Lynch pleaded guilty to bank fraud conspiracy and conspiracy to receive or possess stolen mail before a New Jersey federal court.
He faces up to 35 years in prison and over $1 million in fines.
Sentencing is slated for Nov. 8.
