JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Police arrested an 18-year-old man Tuesday after a hidden recording device was discovered in a family restroom at New Jersey mall.

Andy Cardenas was charged with invasion of privacy, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.


According to prosecutors, on Friday, Aug. 9, a woman discovered a black device while using the family restroom located on the first floor of JCPenney inside Newport Centre in Jersey City.

The Special Victims Unit was contacted and later identified Cardenas as a person of interest.

Multiple digital files were recovered from the recording device, which contained images from several unidentified restrooms.

The Special Victims Unit is seeking the public's help identifying the location of the restrooms in several photos.

It is unclear how long the recording device was being utilized.
