VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man was arrested for a machete attack at a Long Island laundromat that left a victim critically injured, Nassau County police said Wednesday.
Roberto Velasquez, 30, was busted shortly after the vicious attack on a man in his 50s just after 2 a.m. Tuesday at Laundry Palace on W. Merrick Road in Valley Stream.
Velasquez struck the man multiple times with the machete, causing serious injuries, according to police.
The circumstances surrounding the attack weren’t immediately clear; police only said there was a “disturbance” between the two men.
The victim was rushed by Nassau County ambulance to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Tuesday night.
Velasquez, who police said is homeless, was taken into custody in the area and later charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. He was set to be arraigned Wednesday.
