NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 49-year-old man was attacked by a shark Wednesday afternoon less than 12 hours after paddleboarder was attacked at a nearby beach that morning, according to the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau.

The beach-goer was standing waist deep in the water at Seaview Beach on Fire Island just after 6 p.m. when the shark bit him on the wrist and the butt.

He was able to walk out of the water and emergency responders rushed him to Stony Brook University Hospital in a police helicopter with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 41-year-old man was attacked while paddleboarding at Smith Point beach further up the barrier islands Wednesday morning.

He suffered a non-fatal shark bite around 7:30 a.m.

Wednesday evening’s attack was the third in 10 days.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone called the frequency of the attacks “unprecedented.”

"We've not seen this before,” he said. “We hadn't seen our beach closed to swimming in the history of Smith Point County Park since it opened in 1959."
