JERSEY CITY (1010 WINS) – A man killed a woman and two children, then tried to stab himself before he was arrested in an act of domestic violence at a Jersey City apartment early Thursday morning, officials said.
“This was a terrible triple homicide that occurred last night related to domestic violence,” Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop wrote on X. "This is just such horrible and sad news."
The woman and two kids—ages 5 and 9—were found dead at Hutton Street and Liberty Avenue as police responded to the scene shortly after 1 a.m.
The officers reportedly found a broken window to a basement apartment, where the victims were unresponsive inside.
It's unclear how the woman and kids were killed, but Fulop said the man had tried to stab himself before he was taken into custody by police.
“We have chaplains and social workers in the neighborhood to work with family + neighbors,” Fulop wrote.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department said they were investigating the deaths.
“At this time, this matter is being investigated as an act of domestic violence,” the prosecutor’s office said.
The relationship between the three victims and the man in custody wasn’t immediately known.
