STONY BROOK, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Police are searching for a man who vandalized a “Black Lives Matter” sign at a Long Island church in a suspected hate crime.

The Suffolk County Police Department released images Friday of the helmeted man grabbing the sign outside the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Nicolls Road in Stony Brook.

The man caused unspecified damage to the sign just after midnight on Oct. 26, according to police.

Suffolk County Police Hate Crimes Unit detectives are investigating the case.
