Man's body washes ashore in NJ

KEYPORT, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Officials recovered a man's body Sunday night after it washed ashore in New Jersey, Keyport police said Monday.

According to police, the body washed onto the shoreline near American Legion Drive. Police are working to identify the man, and an autopsy is currently being performed.


"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family during this difficult time. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and ask for your patience as we work to confirm the details surrounding this incident," police said in a post on Facebook.

Last week, the Keyport police and U.S. Coast Guard began searching for 74-year-old man who had been reported missing after he went kayaking in the Raritan Bay off Keyport.

His kayak and personal belongings and cell phone were found on shore.
