NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A new musical based off of the life and career of New Jersey native Frank Sinatra is in development, Universal Music Group Theatrical announced Wednesday.

Together with Sinatra’s daughter, Tina, and Frank Sinatra Enterprises, the musical’s script is being written by two-time Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro and will be directed and choreographed by Olivier Award winner and three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall.

“I’m excited to work with Universal Music Theatrical on this stage production that we believe will bring audiences new perspectives and insights into my father’s renowned music and his enduring legacy,” Tina Sinatra said.

The musical opens on New Year’s Eve 1942 with a 27-year-old Sinatra about to step onto the stage of New York's Paramount Theatre and give a performance that will change music history.

Audiences will watch Sinatra navigate the love his wife, Nancy, amongst the demands and temptations of being the most popular singer in America as his career suddenly skyrockets.

The musical will also show his affair with actress Ava Gardner which causes his records to stop selling, the press to turn against him and sends his career plummeting. Sinatra’s great show business comeback will bring his story full circle on stage.

“After working with Tina and FSE for many years on Frank Sinatra’s treasured catalog of music, I’m thrilled to help bring this new production to the stage that will add another dimension to his artistry and music,” Bruce Resnikoff, President & CEO of Universal Music Enterprises, said.

No word yet on when the musical is set to be debut.
