NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – President Joe Biden will reinstate COVID restrictions on travelers who've recently been in several countries and much of Europe days after former President Donald Trump rescinded them, according to multiple reports.
A White House official confirmed to CNN that Biden will reinstate the restrictions on Monday—a week after Trump signed an executive order that would've lifted the restrictions on Tuesday. NBC News and the Associated Press also confirmed the news.
The travel restrictions impact travelers from Brazil, Ireland, the United Kingdom and 26 other European countries.
Restrictions will also be extended to travelers who've recently been to South Africa, where a new variant of COVID has been found, according to the reports.
Last week, incoming White House press secretary Jen Psaki criticized Trump's order lifting the restrictions, writing on Twitter: "With the pandemic worsening, and more contagious variants emerging around the world, this is not the time to be lifting restrictions on international travel."
