NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Caitlyn Jenner officially announced she’s running for governor of California on Friday.

Jenner's campaign site, with the slogan "Caitlyn for California," went live Friday morning. Jenner, 71, also posted a press release announcing the run to Twitter.

"I’m in!" she tweeted. "California is worth fighting for."

The former Olympian and reality TV star, whose children include Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner, has already filed the initial paperwork to run, her campaign told Axios.

The announcement follows reports this month that Jenner, a longtime Republican, was considering challenging Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, in a possible recall election later this year.

“Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision,” Jenner said in a statement. “For the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people.”

The statement called Newsom’s taxes “too high” and his COVID-19 lockdown “over-restrictive.”

While Jenner is working with some of former President Donald Trump’s advisers for her strategy, she’s not branding herself as a Trump Republican, according to Axios.

A campaign adviser told the outlet that Jenner will run as a candidate who is “socially liberal and fiscally conservative.”
