NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Dr. Anthony Fauci received Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine last Tuesday, and the infectious disease expert said Sunday that the only side effect he's experienced is a sore arm.
"The only thing I had was about maybe 6 to 10 hours following the vaccine, I felt a little bit of an ache in my arm that lasted maybe 24 hours, a little bit more," Fauci, who turned 80 on Christmas Eve, told Dana Bash on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday. "Then it went away and completely other than that I felt no other deleterious types of effects."
Fauci said his body's reaction to the vaccine "was really quite good, it was even as good or better than an influenza vaccine. Nothing serious at all. Perhaps when I get the boost I might feel a little aching because the immune system will be revving up even more but I'll be getting that in about three weeks."
Fauci said he will get the vaccine's second does in about three weeks, and that he expects to feel similar aches "because the immune system will be revving up more."
