NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- McDonald's will start selling a plant-based burger in some of its restaurants next year, the fast-food chain said Monday.
The burger, dubbed the "McPlant," will be "a delicious plant-based burger crafted for McDonald's, by McDonald's, and with the kind of craveable McDonald's flavor our customers love," the company said in a release.

McDonald's tested the burgers in some of its Canadian outposts last year and garnered an "encouraging response," the release said.
"There are other plant-based burgers out there, but the McPlant delivers our iconic taste in a sink-your-teeth-in (and wipe-your-mouth) kind of sandwich," the company said. "It's made with a juicy, plant-based patty and served on a warm, sesame seed bun with all the classic toppings."
"Markets can adopt the McPlant when they're ready, and we expect some to test the burger next year," it added.
McDonald's will not be manufacturing its own plant-based meat, but will be relying on its suppliers, the company noted. The chain didn't immediately say which suppliers it would be working with.
