NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Former President Donald Trump is being held in civil contempt of court by a New York judge, who has also fined him $10,000 per day for failing to comply with Attorney General Letitia James' document subpoena.
"Mr. Trump, I know you take your business seriously, and I take mine seriously," said Judge Arthur Engoron before issuing the ruling from the bench in a Manhattan courtroom, following a hearing.
James' office filed a motion to hold Trump in contempt of court earlier this month, alleging he hasn’t handed over documents she subpoenaed in her probe into his business practices.
In court papers, James argued that Trump should be fined "a sum sufficient to coerce his compliance" after he missed a March 31 court-imposed deadline to turn over the documents.
Trump, a Republican, has been fighting James in court over her investigation, which he has called a politically motivated "witch hunt."
Trump's spokespeople did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
