NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- President Donald Trump told Rudy Giuliani from the hospital Saturday that "I'm going to beat this" and "I feel I could get out of here right now."

Trump, who is hospitalized at Walter Reed Medical Center with COVID-19, phoned his longtime friend and personal attorney around 2:30 p.m. to tell him how healthy he felt, according to the New York Post.

"If you can judge by the way he speaks, he sounded like vintage Donald Trump," Giuliani told the Post after the call.

White House doctors said Saturday that Trump was "doing very well" and didn't have a fever or need oxygen. But a source told White House reporters that "we're still not on a clear path to a full recovery" and that "the next 48 hours will be critical" for the president.

Trump told Giuliani he's been watching coverage of his hospital stay, including ominous reports about his health, and he wanted people to know he's feeling good.

"You go tell people I'm watching this coverage," Trump said. "I feel I could get out of here right now. But they're telling me there can always be a backstep with this disease. But I feel I could go out and do a rally."

"I am the president of the United States. I can't lock myself in a room," Trump added.

"I'm going to beat this," he said. "Then I will be able to show people we can deal with this disease responsibly, but we shouldn't be afraid of it."
