NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Americans could start to receive $600 stimulus checks as early as Tuesday night, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said.

In a tweet Tuesday evening, Mnuchin said the Treasury Department “has delivered a payment file to the Federal Reserve for American’s Economic Impact Payments.”

“These payments may begin to arrive in some accounts by direct deposit as early as tonight and will continue into next week,” he wrote.

“Paper checks will begin to be mailed tomorrow,” he added.

Mnuchin’s announcement came hours after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked Democrats’ push to bring President Donald Trump’s demand for bigger, $2,000 COVID-19 relief checks up for a vote, saying the chamber would “begin a process” to address the issue.
