NJ designates March 9 annual 'COVID-19 Heroes Day' to honor frontline workers

TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey will honor residents who have worked on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic with an annual day recognizing their "heroic" efforts, Gov. Phil Murphy said Tuesday.

Murphy on Tuesday signed legislation designating March 9 of each year "COVID-19 Heroes Day."

"From nurses and doctors to grocery store workers and law enforcement, countless essential workers have been working day and night to serve New Jerseyans during these trying times," Murphy said in a statement.

"It is my honor to sign this bill recognizing the heroic efforts of those who have been serving on the front lines," he added. "These heroes have brought us to this moment where we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel."

New Jersey on Tuesday reported 3,434 new positive COVID-19 test results and 46 new virus-related fatalities.
