NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A New Jersey police officer was shot in Montclair on Monday afternoon, state police confirmed.

"One of our members with Montclair Police has been shot this afternoon, "the New Jersey State PBA tweeted. "His injuries are non life threatening,"Please keep him in your prayers."

The shooting happened in the 100 block of Forest Street in Montclair.

A nearby high school was told to shelter in place. "We were instructed by Montclair Police to shelter-in-place because of a shooting near Forest Street," Nina De Rosa, assistant to Montclair Schools superintendent, told Montclair Local. "We sheltered-in-place at both high school buildings, Renaissance, Watchung, and Woodman Field House. We have since received the all clear."

"The school is not involved, and there is no potential threat to it," the Town of Montclair wrote on Facebook.

The Essex County's Prosecutor's office confirmed that an officer and civilian were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The events leading up to the shooting are still unclear.

An investigation is ongoing.
