TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey police officer struck and killed a 65-year-old woman as he was driving to a crime scene in October — and the state's Office of the Attorney General on Wednesday released video footage of the accident.
Clifton Police Department Officer Garrell Middleton was responding to a crime in progress around 7:11 p.m. on Oct. 22 with the emergency lights on his car activated when he hit the woman at the intersection of Alwood and Brookwood roads, the Attorney General's office said in a press release.
The woman was taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson, where she was pronounced dead, according to the release.
A Nest camera positioned on a porch recorded the officer crashing his car in front of a house across the street.
The Attorney General office released the video pursuant to a directive that requires the release of public records related to law enforcement-involved deaths in New Jersey.
The Attorney General's Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating the accident.
