NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 42-year-old detective with the Bergen County Sheriff's Office has been charged for trying to engage in sexual acts with a juvenile who he knew, as well as sending a lewd photo of himself named to the minor, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced.
Michael Vermeylen, 42, of Oak Ridge in Morris County is charged with third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child and third-degree Obscenity to Minors.
Vermeylen told police that the inappropriate actions took place while he was intoxicated, according to court documents filed by police.
The age and gender of the minor -- who lives in Monmouth County -- was not provided.
He was arrested after an undercover investigation by a detective with the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office who was monitoring the minor's phone, Santiago said.
Vermeylen was arrested Feb. 7 and is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court.
