NJ cop runs over, kills 51-year-old man walking near police parking lot

PATERSON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey officer with the Paterson Police Department fatally struck a man walking near a department parking lot on Monday, and prosecutors are investigating.

At about 6:49 p.m., the officer was exiting the police personnel parking lot at 101 Memorial Dr. when he hit the 51-year-old victim from Newark.

The officer stayed at the scene and tried to render aid to the victim.

He was soon transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center for injuries to his arm and head, but succumbed to the trauma.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating.
