MAYS LANDING, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey drug dealer who bragged to an undercover detective about the strength of the fentanyl he was selling was sentenced earlier this month after being convicted of charges related to a man’s fatal overdose, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday.

William Jenkins, 29, was sentenced on Oct. 8 on charges of strict liability for causing a drug-induced death, distribution of controlled dangerous substances and unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon.

In alignment with his plea agreement, Jenkins got 11 years in New Jersey State Prison, carrying an 85% period of parole ineligibility. Once released, he will be subject to “intensive parole supervision” for five years, prosecutors said.

On July 5, 2023, a 44-year-old male victim prosecutors refer to as “B.F.” was found in a parked vehicle in Atlantic City, unresponsive, with a syringe in his arm.

An autopsy showed that B.F. overdosed and died of fentanyl intoxication, and an investigation determined he previously met with Jenkins, who sold him the fentanyl.

Just over a week later, on July 13, an undercover detective met with Jenkins in Atlantic City to purchase fentanyl.

During the exchange, Jenkins “provided the detective with a can of Narcan while bragging about the strength of the fentanyl he was selling,” prosecutors said. He also admitted that he had recently sold fentanyl to B.F.
Immediately after the undercover purchase was complete, Jenkins was arrested.

At the time of his arrest, investigators found a long, straight-blade knife consistent with a dagger in his pants pocket.
