NJ expanding COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to 16+ on April 19: Murphy

TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- All New Jerseyans ages 16 or older will be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine on April 19, Gov. Phil Murphy said Monday.

"That's about 12 days ahead of our initial target that had been May 1, but given the trajectory we are on, we believe this is the right time to put our program into higher-gear," Murphy said at a news briefing Monday afternoon.

The governor also announced that fully-vaccinated New Jerseyans who travel domestically will no longer be required to self-quarantine or get tested for COVID-19 before or after travel.

The following New Jersey residents became eligible for vaccines effective Monday, April 5, Murphy noted:

- New Jerseyans ages 55 or older
- New Jerseyans with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are ages 16 or older
- Higher education educators and staff
- Librarians and library staff
- Members of the media
- Additional essential workers (https://covid19.nj.gov/pages/vaccine)
