RIVERSIDE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 27-year-old teacher’s aide at Riverside High School in Riverside New Jersey was arrested Tuesday for a sexual relationship she allegedly had with a student, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
Michelle Jacoby, who is also the school’s marching band director, started abusing the boy when he was a freshman at the school, according to prosecutors.
The age of the student and timing of the relationship are being withheld to guard the boy’s identity.
The student told a teacher about the relationship, who in turn reported it to police.
Jacoby allegedly abused the child multiple times, almost always at her home.
“The safety of our students and staff is absolutely paramount,” said Riverside Superintendent Michael Adams in a message to parents. “Therefore, I want to assure you that based on the information shared with me regarding this specific allegation from a few years ago, there is no current safety concern for our staff or students.”
Adams said the district is cooperating with law enforcement and that Jacoby has been suspended.
Jacoby faces charges for aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
