PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A man who worked as the carpentry teacher at a New Jersey high school is accused of inappropriately touching two students, on separate occasions, prosecutors said.
According to officials, the incidents occurred while Edward White, 56, was employed at the Perth Amboy Magnet School.
White was charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact and two counts of second-degree child endangerment after he surrendered to Perth Amboy Police headquarters Wednesday.
An affidavit alleges that White made "repeated" comments about a 17-year-old student's body and buttocks in the days before he touched her on Nov. 15.
After searching White's phone investigators discovered White texted the student about touching her, the affidavit said.
A second 16-year-old's student told police White put his hand on her buttocks and "poked her buttocks with a broom" on another occasion in class when she was a junior between January and September, officials said.
White also commented on the student's body and how her pants fit, the complaint added.
He was placed on leave and banned from school property and is currently in the Middlesex County jail.
Anyone with information about White is asked to call Detective Olivia Ankudowicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at 732-745-8083 or Perth Amboy Police Detective Raymond Nolasco at 732-324-3879.
