NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A 19-year-old man was arrested in New York on nearly two weeks after he allegedly fatally shot a man outside a Wawa in South Jersey, Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said Wednesday.

Officials said Shaqwil Marlow allegedly shot Luis J. Rivera Jr., 23, multiple times as he exited a Wawa store in Vineland late on Jan. 13.

An investigation led to charges being filed against Marlow for murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, Atlantic City division, in collaboration with the Western New York division of the Marshals, located and arrested Marlow in New York State on Wednesday.

Webb-McRae said officials will work to extradite Marlow back to New Jersey, where the state intends to request pre-trial detention.

A GoFundMe fundraiser established to cover Rivera Jr.'s funeral expenses has raised over $5,000 as of Wednesday evening.

Nyasia Almodovar, the girlfriend of the victim, said, "Luis was an amazing father, boyfriend, son, uncle and brother. He would put other people before himself, my son has to grow up with no father figure in his life my daughters can't experience their first daddy and daughter dance and I can't marry my soul mate the only man I ever knew."

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Vineland Police Department Det. Christopher Fixler at 856-460-0806 or Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Detective Paul Panchesine at 856-332-6233.
