Michael Doyle was driving with his 2-year-old child and another adult in the car when he ran a red light and struck 33-year-old Anthony Swezeny before slamming into a van on Sept. 27, 2021.

A toxicology report found Doyle was under the influence of fentanyl, morphine, xanax, methadone, codeine and THC when he crashed.

“An accident that takes a person’s life is a tragedy and in this case a tragedy that could have been avoided if the defendant did not get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle,” said Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds. “Nothing will bring back the victim, but we will continue to work to deter others from making this same mistake and continue to protect our citizens of Atlantic County.”

Doyle was sentenced to eight years for vehicular homicide and five for endangering the welfare of a child.
