NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A New Jersey man was indicted by a federal grand jury this week after he allegedly went haywire while high on a flight last month, trying to open the plane's doors and propositioning a flight attendant for sex, among other rogue acts.
Eric Nicholas Gapco, 26, of Delanco, was charged with interference with a flight crew and attempted damage to an aircraft. He was due in court Thursday in Salt Lake City.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, he became unruly and disruptive July 18 while on an American Airlines flight from Seattle to Dallas, causing the flight to be diverted to Utah.
A complaint alleges he wouldn't follow instructions and tried to have sex with a flight attendant.
He also vaped, yelled, bothered passengers, locked himself in a lavatory and tried to open the exterior doors of the aircraft multiple times, according to prosecutors.
“I am sane!” he shouted during the ordeal, according to video obtained by KSL-TV.
He was ultimately restrained by the flight crew and passengers, who tied his feet and hands with flexible restraints, prosecutors said.
"Donald Trump 2024, or Joe Biden, I don't mind—I'm the new generation," he says as he's led off the plane, according to the video.
He was arrested at Salt Lake City International Airport, where he allegedly spat on an officer, and continued to be "combative with medical staff and the police," according to a detention memo.
He later admitted to eating about 10 cannabis edibles, and he may have tried to give another passenger a bag of unknown pills, according to court documents obtained by the Dallas Morning News.
