The 32-year-old Bayonne man, Elvis Santana, allegedly stabbed the victim, Mathew Mortimer, multiple times in the vestibule of an apartment building at 1095 Avenue C between 53rd and 54th Streets around 3:30 p.m. on March 2, police said.

Mortimer was later taken to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Florida police officers discovered Santana was the New Jersey murder suspect after he was arrested on May 25 in Miami on unrelated charges.

Santana was charged with first-degree murder along with two weapons possession charges. He is currently being held at the Miami-Dade County Turner-Knight Guilford Correctional Facility while awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
