MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 69-year-old Monroe Township man was sentenced to a little over eight years in prison after he attempted to hire a hitman to kill his ex-wife and her daughter, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

In the summer of 2021, Michael Stewart told a confidential source he intended to have them both killed and asked the person to find a hitman for him.

In October 2021, Stewart met with an undercover federal agent posing as a hitman.

He gave the phony hitman to kill the daughter first, followed by the ex-wife and provided him with names, addresses, layout of the victim’s property and the types of cars they drove.

He also paid the undercover agent $500 as a partial payment.

He pleaded guilty to one count of use of interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder for hire.

In addition to the 97-month sentence, the judge ordered Stewart to serve three years supervised release.
