HEWLITT POINT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A juvenile boy and a New Jersey woman were arrested for attempting to steal a vehicle on Long Island Wednesday morning.
According to detectives, at 6:33 a.m., police responded to a Seawane Road residence in Hewlett Point for an attempted stolen vehicle.
The victim had his vehicle running and saw an unknown male inside his vehicle, authorities said.
He went outside and the suspect fled in a white Hyundai being driven by an unknown woman.
Responding officers conducted a canvass of the area and located the vehicle. After an investigation, a male juvenile and Melissa Maldonado, 19, of Clifton, New Jersey, were arrested without incident.
Maldonado's eleven-month-old son was in the backseat of the vehicle, authorities said.
The infant was uninjured and released to a family member.
Maldonado was charged with attempted grand larceny and endangering the welfare of a child. She will be arraigned on Thursday in Hempstead.
The juvenile was charged with attempted grand larceny and will be arraigned on Thursday at the Youth Part of First District Court in Hempstead.
