LACEY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey police dispatcher was charged with stealing $4,690 from a volunteer emergency medical services organization, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Friday.
According to Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, 33-year-old Matthew Bender used his access to the Lanoka Harbor Emergency Medical Services’ PayPal account to move the money into his personal account.
Authorities found that the grant money awarded to the LHEMS was disbursed to a PayPal account managed by Bender, Billhimer said.
Officials said Bender used the stolen funds to purchase meals at restaurants and made purchases at pharmacies and auto stores.
Bender is facing theft charges and released on a summons pending a future court date.
