KEARNY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Kearny police are searching for a 33-year-old man who jumped into the Passaic River after he was spotted breaking into a truck at an L.A. Fitness parking lot.
Hector L. Nieves from Belleville was dropped off by his wife at the L.A. Fitness on Passaic Avenue around 1 a.m. on Monday, according to police.
There he allegedly tried to break into a car, but fled into the Passaic River when he was caught by police, authorities said.
The officers lost sight of him while he was swimming across the river.
