TRENTON (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey reported another 4,240 coronavirus cases and 49 deaths Saturday as hospitalizations declined slightly again.
The number of new cases were an increase from Friday, when 3,975 were reported. The total number of cases statewide is now 427,417.
Middlesex County saw the largest share of new cases at 430. Monmouth County reported 390 cases and Bergen County recorded 372.
The 49 new deaths bring the state's death toll to 16,265, not including 1,908 probable deaths.
There have been 1,071 confirmed deaths this month so far, according to NJ.com, which reported the toll is more than any month since June.
Hospitalizations dropped for the third day in a row, from 3,582 to 3,570. There were 687 patients in intensive care and 471 patients on ventilators.
On Friday, Murphy announced that New Jersey will open six COVID-19 vaccine "mega sites" and more than 200 "satellite" sites in the coming months.
The six "mega sites" — one at Meadowlands Complex; one at Rockaway Townsquare Mall; one at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center; one at Moorestown Mall; one at Rowan College of South Jersey; and one at the Atlantic City Convention Center — are expected to open in early January, Murphy said at a news briefing.
Those six sites will vaccinate frontline health care workers, before opening their doors to essential workers and high-risk adults over the age of 65, he said.
The state also plans to open more than 200 "satellite" vaccination outposts next year, at sites including hospitals, urgent care centers and pharmacies.
The governor also said the state was "still trying to get to the bottom of what we understand will be [a] 20 percent reduction in both Pfizer and Moderna vaccine shipments, at least in the near term."
The number of Pfizer shipments the state was slated to receive has been slashed by around 34 percent, he said. Expected Moderna shipments, meanwhile, have been reduced by "a more modest" amount, the governor said.
